What is Social Web?

Social Web includes blogs, social media sites like facebook, linkedin and micro blogging sites like twitter and plurk.

Why Pay Attention to Social Web?

The millennial or Y generation [would be majority of the work force] is into social web, and whether you like it or not, they are using these tools to talk about work, share pictures, use company resources (internet and computer), and use social web to accomplish their work.

With these, a new set of problem have surfaced and management or business owners must be ready to face it head on. Blocking social web access in the office will not necessarily address the problem, because they will still access social web outside the office to talk about work, do some selling, marketing, research and recruitment elsewhere. The proactive solution to this is to define the rules of engagement .

  4. [...] To embrace social media or not is not a generational issue. It’s a business and HR issue. Social web is a powerful but neutral tool. If used properly, it adds value to the user and the brand, if used ignorantly or irresponsibly, it can hurt others, the user and the brand. While HR recruiters are the first to adopt use of social media for HR, there are other use that are left unexplored. Social web can be used to engage and retain employees, online training, for online bulletin, for HR branding etc. But first and foremost, HR should take active role, if she cannot spearhead, in defining online philosophy and setting up of policy and training.
